Assembly Member Ken Skates is encouraging his constituents to support a national charity’s drive to fund life-saving research.
Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, is backing the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru’s ‘Bag it, Beat it’ campaign, which asks for members of the public to donate a bag of unwanted items to be sold on in BHF shops throughout Wales.
Mr Skates said: “Every week three children in Wales are born with heart defects, and many will have lost their lives before reaching school age. BHF Cymru says each large bagful donated to its shops is estimated to be worth around £20 – which is enough to fund a full day’s laboratory costs.
“I would encourage people in Clwyd South and across Wrexham to donate any unwanted items to their local BHF shop and help the charity continue its life-saving work.”
Delyth Lloyd, policy and advocacy manager at BHF Cymru, said: “We are delighted that Ken is supporting our new ‘Bag it, Beat it’ campaign, which will help enable the continuation of pioneering and vital research into congenital heart disease and help save more lives.”
