Clwyd South AM Ken Skates given warm welcome at Hanmer school

Assembly Member Ken Skates thanked pupils and staff for their warm welcome after visiting a village school.

Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, was quizzed by a class of 20 children at St Chad’s in Hanmer as part of their World at Work project.

The pupils put Mr Skates on the spot with a series of questions including what the worst part of his job is – “all the driving” – and some of the famous people he’s met, who include the Queen and Welsh football superstar Gareth Bale.

The AM also talked about the importance of an active lifestyle and healthy eating, and said visiting schools and colleges was his favourite part of the job.

“I love meeting young people and encouraging them to work hard, follow what they enjoy in life and be the best they can be. You shouldn’t be judged on where you come from in life, but on how hard you work and how you treat others,” said Mr Skates.

When asked what the most interesting part of his job is, Mr Skates said: “I really enjoy meeting people with great ideas every day. No matter how old you are, it’s great to learn new things.”

After the event on Friday (October 10), he said: “This is the third time I’ve been to St Chad’s and I love coming here. I always get a really warm welcome and it’s a beautiful building. I’d like to thank the children and staff again for their friendliness and hospitality.”
