ASSEMBLY MEMBER KEN SKATES is urging people in his Clwyd South constituency to see a part of North Wales history during its short stay in Wrexham.
The 3,700-year-old Mold Cape has returned to within 11 miles of the place it was discovered and will be on display at Wrexham County Borough Museum until September 14.
The early Bronze Age artefact is on loan from London’s British Museum, which it was sold to three years after being found by a group of men from the local workhouse in Mold in 1833.
LABOUR AM MR SKATES said: “The Mold Cape is a magnificent artefact and I would urge anyone who is interested in our region’s history to visit Wrexham County Borough Museum and see it close up.
“I have been to see this important piece of Welsh history twice before, and I hope schoolchildren in the area will be able to go along while it’s here as it’s rare for it to be so close to home. It’s a wonderful opportunity.”
The Cape, featured as one of the top 10 treasures in the BBC television programme A History of the World in 100 objects, will be on display free until September 14. The ceremonial relic, thought to have been a woman’s, was last shown in Wrexham in 2005, when it attracted 11,500 visitors in 12 weeks.
