Splash Magic supporters are being asked to sell unwanted items to boost the coffers in the run-up to Christmas.
Clwyd South Assembly Member Ken Skates is ready to kick off the cash drive by offering a rare Lego set from his childhood on internet auction site eBay.
Proceeds will go to the facility formerly known as Plas Madoc Leisure Centre, which was reopened by volunteers a year ago on Sunday after being shut by Wrexham Council.
Splash’s fundraising coordinator Greg Ogden said: “I have been looking at creating our own eBay account so people can list unwanted items and the money goes straight back into the running of the centre, and this could be a great way to get the ball rolling.
“Everyone has unused and unwanted clothes, electrical items and furniture they don’t want, so we’re asking supporters of Splash to take five minutes to list them on eBay, Gumtree, Facebook, wherever they like, and donate what they get to the centre.
“We need to pay for a lot of maintenance work that should have been done years ago, so every few pounds here and there will make a difference and help improve Splash.”
Mr Skates added: “This is a fantastic idea of Greg’s. We’ve all got things we don’t want any more, or perhaps never even took out of the box. Rather than wait for the car boot sale which you never get round to doing, why not spare a few minutes to help Splash?
“It’d be brilliant to see supporters chip in. If even a fraction of the people who backed the fight to keep the centre open sold something, this could be a real money-spinner.”
