A MARKET-LEADING Ruabon firm was described as ‘a jewel in the crown of North Wales industry’ after a visit by Assembly Member Ken Skates.
Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, was taken on a tour of the Wrexham Mineral Cables factory at Wynnstay Technology Park, Ruabon, by divisional manager Colin Hughes on Friday afternoon (November 22).
The company, which employs 43 people, was founded in 1987 and developed a unique patented manufacturing process to produce fire survival cables.
Mr Skates said: “The company’s ongoing success both in the UK and overseas has built up a large client base which trusts them to deliver high quality products to tight deadlines, making it a key employer in Clwyd South.
“Wrexham Mineral Cables already exports all over the world but has superb potential for expanding its network and huge potential for future growth. It is also a shining example in terms of its investment in improving employees’ skills, and its research and innovation are second to none.”
He added: “The company is currently creating a new £5m-plus extension to accommodate a new production line that will produce the world’s leading fire survival cables and also a revolutionary new cable for the world’s oil industries.
“Wrexham Mineral Cables is unique within the UK and with its continuing investment in its highly-skilled and dedicated workforce and its market-leading products the future looks very bright indeed. It’s a jewel in the crown of North Wales industry.”
Mr Hughes added: “With the continuing support of Mr Skates and the Welsh Government, I expect Wrexham Mineral Cables to position itself as the world’s leading cable development and manufacturing company within five years.”
