ASSEMBLY Member Ken Skates believes the future is bright for Ysgol Sant Dunawd in Bangor-on-Dee under current headteacher Sara Tate.
Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, visited the village primary school on Friday morning (January 24) and was ‘very impressed’ with what he saw.
Mr Skates said: “An Estyn inspection before Christmas said Ysgol Sant Dunawd’s improvement prospects were good, and after my visit that’s a view I definitely share.
“It is clear to me that the school provides a close, caring environment where each child is valued as an individual. Sara and her team cater well for pupils’ needs, which is another positive that was highlighted in the Estyn report.
“There have been a lot of changes at the school in the past few years, but it is obvious to me that Sara and her team are now providing strong leadership and a clear direction, and I certainly feel the future is bright. I was very impressed.”
Miss Tate has been headteacher since January 2013. The school currently has around 120 pupils, including 16 who attend the nursery on a part-time basis.
Mr Skates added: “I really enjoyed meeting Sara and some of the staff and pupils, and I’m very grateful to them for having me. I will look forward to my next visit.”
