ASSEMBLY Member Ken Skates has welcomed the news a community which has been without a post office for seven months will soon see its branch back open for business.
Post Office Ltd delivered confirmation on Friday (January 3) that the Brymbo branch will reopen at the village’s Enterprise Centre on Blast Road on Monday, January 13, as one of the company’s new ‘local-style’ outlets.
Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, said: “I have been in regular contact with the Post Office since the Brymbo branch closed in May on behalf of my constituents and I am delighted with the announcement the community will soon have these vital services back on their doorstep – it’s fantastic news.
“The company’s regional network manager Simon Drinkwater said the Post Office had received a small number of comments from customers and local representatives during the pre-Christmas consultation period, all of which were supportive of the plans.”
The reopening of the Brymbo branch is part of the largest investment programme in the Post Office’s history, which will see 6,000 branches modernised over three years.
Mr Skates added: “I am delighted the branch in Brymbo is part of the Post Office’s modernisation plans, offering services that will meet customer needs whilst helping to provide future sustainability.”
The new-style branch will operate from an open plan till located at the retail counter, enabling customers to take advantage of a wide range of Post Office products and services alongside retail transactions. Mr Drinkwater said the Post Office had asked Royal Mail if a postbox could be installed at the new premises, but it had declined the request.
