Assembly Member Ken Skates has visited a key local employer which plays an active role in the community.
The Labour AM for Clwyd South met staff at McDonald’s at Chirk Retail Park, which employs 123 local people, on Friday morning.
Mr Skates said: “McDonald’s is an important local employer – there are few places in the area which have a workforce of 100-plus.
“I was invited along to see how the restaurant runs on a day-to-day basis and to hear more how it plays an active part in the community through initiatives such as daily litter patrols and support for grassroots sports clubs, including supplying kit and equipment.
“As a local business, it is committed to making a positive contribution to the community.”
Last year, McDonald’s commissioned a report looking into its contribution to the economy, which showed that the company pumps some £4.3m a year into the Wrexham area.
Mr Skates has also been campaigning for traffic issues near the restaurant to be addressed.
He added: “The Chirk McDonald’s is one of the busiest in Britain, and I know from talking to constituents – and from personal experience – how bad the traffic can be nearby. I’m pleased to have secured assurances from the Welsh Labour Government that congestion on the A483, particularly at the Halton roundabout, will be looked at.”
