Assembly Member Ken Skates has shown his support for shopworkers in his constituency as part of a national campaign.
The Clwyd South AM attended an event at the Senedd on Wednesday (November 16) and afterwards spoke about the importance of the Freedom From Fear initiative run by Usdaw (Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers).
Mr Skates said: “This is one of a number of fantastic campaigns Usdaw runs and a cause that deserves to be highlighted, especially with the hectic Christmas period fast approaching. It is important to make a stand and remind people to respect each other.
“Every minute of every day, another shopworker is verbally abused, threatened and even assaulted. The campaign is about stating loud and clear that this is not part of the job and should never be accepted. I am fully supportive and proud to be a part of it.”
Usdaw organised a series of events to mark Respect For Shopworkers Week (November 14-20). For more information visit www.usdaw.org.uk.
Mr Skates’ backing was welcomed by general secretary John Hannett.
