An Assembly Member praised a community group’s dedication to improving their area after a meeting to discuss tourism and the visitor economy.
Ken Skates, AM for Clwyd South, met members of the Chirk and Ceiriog Valley Partnership at the West Arms in Llanarmon DC Friday (January 23).
Mr Skates said: “It was great to be able to discuss the huge potential of the area and the massive importance of tourism to the local economy.
“It’s always a pleasure to meet with the partnership members, who are dedicated to improving the quality of life and visitor offer in the Ceiriog Valley.”
Recent data from the Office of National Statistics showed a 21% increase in the number of visitors to Wales from January-June last year compared with the same period in 2013, with related spending rising to £149m. The UK as a whole saw a 9% increase in visitor numbers.
Mr Skates added: “Tourism is crucial for our economies, particularly in Clwyd South and across North East Wales, and these encouraging figures are further proof that the Welsh Government’s strategies are delivering.”
