Ken Skates praises ‘key role’ of PCSOs in Clwyd South after walking the beat in Penycae

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates hailed community support officers as ‘a vital part of modern-day policing’ after walking the beat in Penycae.

Labour Assembly Member Mr Skates joined North Wales Police PCSO Tim Edwards for a walkabout in the village on Monday (August 4).

He said: “Tim and his fellow PCSOs have become important members of their local neighborhood policing teams and have a key role to play in establishing close links with the community and speaking to residents about a wide range of issues.

“They are a vital part of modern-day policing and it was great to have the opportunity to go out on the beat with Tim to see first-hand what his role entails and the types of things he and his colleagues have to deal with day-to-day.”

Mr Skates also reaffirmed the Welsh Government’s support for PCSOs following the extra 500 roles it created earlier this year and continues to fund as part of its commitment to reducing crime across Wales.

He said: “The additional 500 PCSOs the Welsh Labour Government has funded are making a difference to communities throughout Wales, and I would like to thank Tim and our other hard-working PCSOs for the important role they play in solving crimes and ensuring people feel safe in our communities.”

PCSO Edwards said: “It is important for people such as Ken to come and get a real feel for what we do and how we go about doing it. Ken and I spoke to several residents and you can really sense the community spirit in the village and how they value seeing PCSOs walking the beat.”

Mr Skates earlier met the area’s new Inspector, Jacqueline Downes, at Rhos Police Station.
